Construction began last April and created 70 construction jobs, followed by a month of testing before coming online.
The O’Fallon Renewable Energy Center will provide electricity for the investor-owned utility Ameren Missouri, and its 1.2 million electric customers.
Ameren Missouri has said the investment in the solar plant is so customers can have cleaner air and renewable energy, and it intends to continue to expand its renewable energy generation. The expansion plans include a second solar centre to be built in 2016.
The utility’s Integrated Resource Plan, already filed with the state Public Service Commission also plans wind and hydroelectric power and landfill gas.
