Basildon’s new high tech waste management facility will be partly powered by solar after Photon Energy completed a 309.71kWp system on the waste facility’s roof.

The new PV system is expected to generate around 10% of the energy required for the mechanical and biological treatment (MBT) facility as well as the visitor and education centre. The MBT facility is predicted to process as much as 417,000 tonnes of municipal waste a year.

The solar installation consists of 1,230 Upsolar modules partnered with eight Power-One inverters and mounted on K2’s Speed Rail mounting system.

The PV array took four months to complete and was included at the site in order to meet energy efficiency conditions as part of the site’s planning consent.
