Bypass Nurseries in Evesham will be even greener after the completion of a 3.3MW solar farm on its site.

The development, completed by Sunderland-based Sun Spirit, boasts 16,000 solar modules spread across 7.6 hectares of land.

Commenting on the project, Stewart Smith associate at mfg Solicitors who advised on the project, said: “Wychavon District Council is to be commended for having a forward-thinking approach to renewable energy and for giving this development the green light when they did.”

Smith continued: “We had to be quick to get everything completed so that our client could make the most of the opportunity while it was still there. As a result many local homes and businesses will now be supplied by a safe, clean and renewable source of energy for many years to come.”

However, Smith warned that similar solar schemes will be “less likely to go ahead” due to government proposals to remove support for solar farms over 5MW under the Renewable Obligation (RO) from 1 April 2015. Analysis by Solarbuzz shows that the UK managed to install over 1GW of new capacity in the first quarter of 2014 which was dominated by RO-based solar farms.
