The Japanese arm of German company Krannich Solar has completed a 418kWp PV system on the roof of an aluminium manufacturer’s facility in western Japan.

Krannich, which designs and builds systems in partnership with installers, worked on the project for an unnamed investor. Modules were supplied by fellow German company AXITEC, with the plant utilising 1,708 modules across the sloping roof of the facility. The project is wired to a Sunny Central 500CP central inverter from SMA. Krannich’s Japanese office was involved throughout the 10 month design, testing and construction process, right up to connection, the company claims.

Details of where electricity will be sold have also not been revealed. Japan still offers a feed-in tariff for commercial rooftops, which despite being degressed by around 10% each financial year since launch in 2012, is still considered generous, set at ¥32/kWh (US$0.32) since April 2014.

Interestingly, Krannich Solar issued a press release which referred to the investor and Krannich having connected at the trade show PV Expo Japan in 2013. PV Expo takes place in late February each year. According to the press release, the two parties are already working on a second rooftop PV project in Japan, with an output of 495kWp.
