SMA Solar Technology AG and Sungrow Germany GmbH reach deal in patent infringement suit

PV inverter leader SMA Technology AG and inverter manufacture Sungrow Germany GmbH, a subsidiary of the China-based Sungrow Power Supply Co., Ltf., have agreed to a deal out of court in regards to a patent infringement case. 

Under the terms of the deal, Sungrow Germany GmbH will pay for previous fees and for future usage of proprietary technology license fees to SMA. As a result of the deal, SMA will drop the patent infringement lawsuit while Sungrow will withdraw the application for annulment of the patent. Both inverter companies will pay their respective legal costs.

SMA Solar Technology has had a successful week, as the German corporation was one of the big winners at the Intersolar AWARD 2014 ceremony at Intersolar Europe. SMA Solar received recognition for its “Fuel Save Controller”, which combines diesel generators and PV installations to decrease diesel use in hybrid systems.
