“We are already building a 1MW system in Kuwait and we have followed the market for more than one year. We have now appointed an area manger and asked them to develop our strategy in the region,” Jan-Marc Raitz, director of commercial management and EPC sales, IBC Solar told PV Tech during the Intersolar Europe event last week.

“We have had visitors at the show from Bahrain, UAE and Egypt. Quite good ones, for example a 1MW self-consumption project on an auto complex. Two or three years ago people were talking to us about 200MW. What do you say to that? Proposals like that are hard to believe but these stories are real,” said Raitz.

As proposals from the region have increasing credibility, Raitz said the region’s progress was now yielding tangible results.

“The market will come,” he said. “We had a visitor from a huge industrial complex in Bahrain who is interested in saving energy and wants to explore putting solar on the roof. We had a construction company from Saudi Arabia looking for a technology partner. DEWA in Dubai has launched a 100MW tender. We are currently discussing whether or not to take part in that tender,” confirmed Raitz.
