More than 120 new large-scale ground-mounted solar power plants could be developed in the UK before the end of April 2015, according to market research analyst NPD Solarbuzz.
The group’s latest UK Deal Tracker report shows that there are currently 124 approved large-scale plants awaiting installation.
Many of these will be targeting connection before support under the Renewable Obligation scheme falls in April 2015.
“In the past six months, the department of energy and climate change (DECC) released the UK’s Solar PV Roadmap and Solar PV Strategy reports, restating aspirations to hit 20GW of cumulative capacity by 2020,” said Finlay Colville, vice-president at NPD Solarbuzz.
“While reaching the long-term goal is expected to involve a blend of rooftop and ground-mounted systems, solar PV farms above 10MW will provide the dominant contribution in 2014,” he added.
According to the report, there were 325 solar farms of 1MW and above in the UK and 60 larger than 10MW.
In addition there are also 444 large-scale ground-mounted solar farms working through the planning process. Of these, 124 are approved.
The UK is set to overtake Germany this year as Europe’s largest PV market.
