California-based microinverter maker Enphase has become the latest company in solar to announce expansion plans to meet demand in the Asia-Pacific region, opening an office in Melbourne, Australia to add to its engineering and design centre in New Zealand and distribution hub in Sydney. The company has also appointed a new managing director, Nathan Dunn, to oversee activities in the region.

Dunn was previously at the Australian division of energy efficient lighting company GE Lighting and prior to that was in mobile communications for LG Electronics. Speaking about his new role, Dunn said the Australian and New Zealand markets are entering a period of consolidation and added that he was “looking forward to working with this talented team to implement some aggressive and innovative go-to-market strategies that will help strengthen our position in this dynamic market”.

The new Melbourne office will add account managers, sales, product training and marketing and media staff, customer service representatives and field application engineers to the company’s workforce.

Enphase recently produced a string of records in reporting fourth quarter 2013 and full-year results, including US$67.1 million in revenue on the back of 107MW of microinverter system shipments and the company's first ever operating profit.
