Martifer Solar has announced that it is currently building a 78.4MWp portfolio of solar farm projects across the UK for Lightsource Renewable Energy.

The Portuguese integrated PV EPC firm has five sites located in Cambridgeshire, Devon, Nottingham and Swindon. The largest of the projects is a 24.7MW solar farm at Abbots Ripton in Cambridgeshire.

Martifer Solar has successfully sold the 9.2MW project located at Spittleborough Farm, Swindon and entered into an EPC agreement with Lightsource Renewable Energy to construct four additional projects, which aggregate the 78.4MWp cluster.

Under the agreement, the whole 78.4MW solar farm portfolio will be added to Lightsource’s asset management portfolio in the UK, with Martifer Solar retained under an operation and maintenance contract.

Commenting on the deal, João Cunha, country manager of Martifer Solar in the UK said: “We have been very active developers in the UK market and are looking forward to a continued healthy pipeline of utility-scale projects in development to be ready to build throughout 2014 and early 2015.”

The five solar sites will host over 308,418 solar modules that will cover a total area of around 155 hectares. The developer anticipates that the combined portfolio will generate around 69.05GWh of electricity every year, mitigating the emission of around 31,582 tonnes of CO2 annually.

The news follows the completion of the company’s previously announced 50MW UK solar farm portfolio last year.

Henrique Rodrigues, CEO of Martifer Solar identified the UK as a key market for his company, he said: “Revenues wise, 2013 was one of our best years and 2014 is forecasted to be even stronger for Martifer Solar, with further milestones anticipated across the world due to our proven capabilities as a fully-integrated player in key markets, such as in the UK.”
