German PV R&D institute ISC to sell BiSoN solar cell technology to Italian MegaCell Srl.

ISC Konstanz (Germany) and MegaCell Srl. (Padova, Italy), have signed an agreement on licensing ISC's bifacial BiSoN solar photovoltaic (PV) cell technology to MegaCell. The Italian PV manufacturing lines will have a yearly capacity of 80 MWp for bifacial BiSoN solar cells featuring over 30% more energy yield (kWh/kWp), reads the press release. Read more

Solar Frontier supplies CIS thin-film solar modules totaling 21.3 MW to US Power, Showa Shell PV plant in Ube, Japan

Solar Frontier KK (Tokyo, Japan) on September 17th, 2014 announced that it supplied 21.3 MW of its CIS thin-film solar photovoltaic (PV) modules for one of the largest “megasolar” (utility-scale) solar PV plants in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. The power plant, which came on stream in July 2014, is owned and managed by US Power Co., Ltd, a joint operating company set up by Ube Group and Showa Shell Sekiyu. Read more

(Guelph, Ontario) on September 16th, 2014 announced that it has been awarded a solar photovoltaic (PV) module supply agreement to provide 1.5 MW to Kawar Energy for a rooftop PV project located in a university in Amman, Jordan. SPI Solar announces acquisition of solar PV projects in Hawaii

SPI Solar (Roseville, Calif., US) on September 16th, 2014 announced it has entered into an agreement to acquire certain assets relating to current SPI solar photovoltaic (PV) projects in Hawaii. Under the terms of the agreement, SPI will acquire Hawaiian Power, LLC’s equity interests and debt related to a SPI and HPL joint venture to develop and operate solar PV projects in Hawaii. As a result of the transaction, SPI will own a 100% interest in an entity that currently has approximately 15.0 megawatt (MW) under development in Hawaii. The aggregate purchase price for the assets is USD 3.95 million. Read more

August 11 was an auspicious day for Mexico. Some seventy-six years after the government nationalized the country’s oil industry, President Enrique Peña Nieto signed into law an energy reform package that many are saying will have a transformative impact on the economy of Mexico. The landmark legislation, which will open Mexico’s oil and natural gas markets to foreign investment, also directs certain changes to the electricity sector that will require grid operator CENACE to procure generation from renewable resources.
