Fitch: New entrants to distributed generation, PV markets challenge utilities' dominance

New investor classes and alternative financing will drive the expansion of the distributed energy generation (DG) market, adding further challenges to the traditional utility business model, according to a new Fitch Ratings (New York, New York, U.S.) report. Fitch expects third-party finance and alternative capital sources to play an important role in expanding the market for residential solar photovoltaics (PV). According to the report greater access to capital will enable easier residential PV acquisition, reduce upfront cash outlays, eliminate homeowner system maintenance and upkeep costs, and thus broaden the potential customer pool. Trina Solar to supply 82 MW of Anti-PID PV modules to Sihong Tianganghu PV Power Generation

Trina Solar Limited (Changzhou, China) on Augst 18th, 2014 announced it signed an agreement to supply 82MW of its anti-Potential Induced Degradation (PID) solar photovoltaic (PV) modules to Sihong Tianganghu Photovoltaic Power Generation Co., Ltd. for a solar power plant located in Jiangsu Province. Trina Solar will supply approximately 320,000 TSM-PC05A modules with power outputs of 245 Wp, 250Wp and 255 Wp. All modules are of the highest anti-PID level currently available - up to 85°C / 85% relative humidity, the producer emphasizes. Read more

CPV in Australia: Silex Systems freezes 100MW project Mildura Solar Power Station

Silex Systems Limited (Sydney, Australia) on August 18th, 2014 announced an update on funding arrangements for Solar Systems Pty Ltd’s (Abbotsford, Australia) proposed 100MW Mildura concentrating photovoltaic (CPV) project, located in Carwarp, near Mildura in Victoria. Following a joint review by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) and Solar Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Silex, both parties have agreed to suspend plans for the 100MW Mildura Solar Power Station and accordingly terminate the funding deed for USD 75 million of conditional support for the project from ARENA.
