Meyer Burger Group (Baar, Switzerland) reports higher incoming orders (+90%) and net sales (+43%) during the first half of 2014 compared to same period in the previous year. This was achieved within a slowly recovering market for solar photovoltaic (PV) equipment and with a variety of systems and solutions in Specialised Technologies. The volume of small and mid-sized orders has increased noticeably compared to the first half of 2013 (+57%). Read more

Mitsui, Tokio Marine Asset Management to finance PV projects totalling 25 MW in Japan

A unit of Mitsui & Co. and Tokio Marine Asset Management Co. are planning a USD 75 million fund focused on solar photovoltaic (PV) projects for institutional investors, Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) reports. The fund plans to invest in 8 solar PV plants to be built at various locations across Japan that will have a total capacity of 25 megawatts (MW), BNEF quotes a statement by Mitsui & Co. US State Breaks Ground on a "Perfect" Solar + Storage Microgrid that Can Provide Resilient Power

Today Green Mountain Power (GMP) broke ground on a solar plus energy storage microgrid in Rutland, Vermont with one expert calling it a "perfect" project. The 2.5-MW solar project is being developed in conjunction with Dynapower and GroSolar and includes 4 MW of battery storage, both lithium ion and lead acid, to integrate the solar generation into the local grid, and to provide resilient power in case of a grid outage. Hanwha SolarOne to supply 50 MW of modules to Baotou Shansheng New Energy for PV projects in Inner Mongolia

(Shnaghai, China) on August 12th, 2014 announced it has signed a supply agreement with Baotou Shansheng New Energy Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Inner Mongolia Shanlu Energy Group Co., Ltd., for delivery of 50 MW of Hanwha SolarOne's solar photovoltaic (PV) modules. Deliveries began in early August and are scheduled for completion by mid-September according to Hanwha SolarOne. According to newly updated information from NPD Solarbuzz (Santa Clara, California, U.S.), solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity installed in the United Kingdom has now reached 5 gigawatts (GW), making the U.K. just the sixth country to hit this landmark figure. Advanced Energy announces Q2 results, 11.0% increase in solar PV inverter sales

Advanced Energy Industries, Inc. (Fort Collins, Colo., U.S.) on August 11th, 2014 announced financial results for the second quarter ended June 30, 2014. The company reported second quarter sales of USD 146.3 million compared with USD 140.9 million in the first quarter of 2014 and USD 139.7 million in the second quarter of 2013. Yingli Solar to supply over 30 MW of PV modules to Gestamp Solar for solar power plant in Japan

Yingli Green Energy Holding Company Limited (Baoding, China) known as "Yingli Solar," on August 11th, 2014 announced that its wholly owned subsidiary Yingli Green Energy Spain, S.L.U. has signed a 31.6 MW supply agreement with Gestamp Solar, a leading Spanish developer and operator of utility-scale PV systems for a solar power plant in Daigo, Japan. According to the agreement, Yingli Solar will deliver more than 125,000 multicyrstalline YGE 60 Cell Series PV modules to Gestamp Solar from October 2014 to February 2015. Read more

IRS Clarifies Beginning of Construction Rules for Renewable Energy Projects

The US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has released Notice 2014-46 (the Notice), which provides further clarification about how a taxpayer can satisfy the requirement that construction of a renewable energy project began before January 1, 2014. The Notice, released on August 8, 2014, is welcome news for the renewable energy industry, which has been anxiously awaiting further guidance with respect to two aspects of the so-called “begin construction” requirement. The Notice addresses those two aspects and modifies a third aspect of the requirement. Read more
