Off-grid PV: Suntech launches 7.5 MW projects to power schools and villages in Malaysia

Wuxi Suntech (Wuxi, China) on July 31st, 2014 announced that it will provide solar photovoltaic (PV) panels for off-grid projects totaling 7.5 MW to power rural schools and villages in Malaysia. The PV modules will form a micro-grid system set to provide 24 hour electricity to three schools and 20 surrounding villages. SunEdison Inc. (St. Peters, Missouri, U.S.), on July 31st, 2014 announced that it has reached financial close with Norddeutsche Landesbank Girozentrale (NORD/LB, Hannover, Germany) for an 18 megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant in Ontario. The project is set to start construction in July and be completed by the end of 2014, at which time it will be sold to Firelight Infrastructure Partners (Toronto, Ontario). The PV plant is expected to generate approximately 20 gigawatt hours of solar power in the first year, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of over 1,800 homes, all of which will be fed directly into the energy grid. Yingli Green Energy Holding Company Limited (Baoding, China) known as "Yingli Solar", on July 31st, 2014 announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Yingli Green Energy International AG, has entered into a strategic alliance with AMB Energia Wytwarzanie (Warsaw, Poland), a subsidiary of AMB Energia S.A. to co-develop 30 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) projects in Poland. Within the framework of the agreement, AMB Energia as a local partner will fully develop the PV projects with support from Yingli throughout all project stages.
