EPIA: Better access to financing, securitization essential for greater solar PV deployment
Sunday, 6.8.2014 - 7:57 (Solarserver)
The European Photovoltaic Industry Association (EPIA, Brussels) has emphasized that financing and securitization are “crucial elements” for sustained deployment of solar photovoltaics (PV), in a presentation with SunSpec Alliance (Scotts Valley, California, U.S.) at the Intersolar Europe trade show in Munich. EPIA says that while its expects continued growth in the global PV market, a larger focus needs to be put on financing and securitization, noting that finance can play a major role in bringing down PV costs. Sunday, 6.8.2014 - 7:53 (Solarserver)
The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO, Canberra, Australia) and Abengoa SA (Seville, Spain) have produced steam at 570 degrees Celsius and 23.5 megapascals using concentrating solar power (CSP) technology. This the highest temperature steam to be produced to date using solar energy. The organizations produced this temperature using a solar power tower CSP design, with a field of 600 mirrors concentrating light onto a solar receiver at the CSIRO Energy Centre in New South Wales, Australia. The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) has praised these results. Read moreEuropean solar thermal market contracts again in 2013
Sunday, 6.8.2014 - 7:49 (Solarserver)
The European solar thermal market fell 12% in volume during 2013 with only 30.5 million square meters of collector area installed, according to the European Solar Thermal Industry Federation (ESTIF, Brussels). This is makes the fifth straight year of European solar thermal market declines. ESTIF notes that this contraction affected almost all large and medium-sized national markets, including an 11% decline in the German market and a 24% fall in France. Read moreBiomass/Pellets

German municipal utilities expect changes to business models
Sunday, 6.8.2014 - 7:44 (Solarserver)
43% of German municipal utilities expect their business models to change significantly due to the nation's Energy Transition, according to a study by Ernst & Young (London) and the Federal Association of Energy and Water Industry (BDEW). 58% of those polled expect 2014 to be a good or very good year for their company, which is higher than poll results two years prior. However, utilities engaged in conventional power generation are not as optimistic. Read moreSolar-/Electromobil
