GT Advanced Technologies to supply HiCz furnaces for QSE factory in Qatar

GT Advanced Technologies (Merrimack, New Hampshire, U.S.) has agreed to supply its continuous-feeding monocrystalline silicon puller technology for Qatar Solar Energy's (QSE, Doha) new factory in Qatar. Under the agreement GT will supply its HiCz 200 furnaces, which the company says will allow QSE to produce high-quality n-type silicon wafers for the production of solar photovoltaic (PV) cells with efficiencies beyond 22%. EnergyTrend: Taiwanese solar PV cell makers to slow production in late June 2014

TrendForce's (Taipei) EnergyTrend division says that it expects the capacity utilization rates of Taiwanese solar photovoltaic (PV) cell makers to fall sharply at the end of June 2014 in anticipation of the preliminary U.S. anti-dumping ruling. The company says that in early to mid-June 2014 utilization rates have been high, but that it expects the market to fall until the announcement of the ruling, which is scheduled for July 24th, 2014. EnergyTrend says that if the preliminary anti-dumping ruling ends up being positive for Taiwan, then shipments will increase again in August. Solar electric technologies are seen as a way to meet Indian consumer's need for a consistent electricity supply, according to a survey by Mercom Capital LLC's (Austin, Texas, U.S.) Indian subsidiary. “India Consumer Perceptions of Renewable Energy Supply” finds that the nation's frequent interruptions of electricity supply have a moderate to major effect on 93% of businesses polled.
