SunEdison Inc. (St. Peters, Missouri, U.S.) is building the Crucero PV project in the Antofagasta Region, and when complete the plant will supply electricity to the nation's Northern Grid (SING). 163 MW of solar PV installed in Germany during April 2014

Germany's solar photovoltaic (PV) market showed another slow month in April 2014 with only 163 MW installed, according to statistics released by the nation's Federal Network Agency. The nation's PV market has fallen by 45% year-over-year during the first four months of 2014, with only 622 MW installed. This marks the second year of market contraction following cuts to Germany's feed-in tariff under the previous CDU/FDP government. And despite this lower level of installations, the current CDU/SPD coalition government is pushing policies to further shrink the nation's solar and renewable energy markets. Read more

Indian President Mukherjee vows to expand National Solar Mission

Africa's largest solar PV microgird project announced

MAECI Solar (Radnor, Pennsylvania, U.S.), GE Power & Water (Trevose, Pennsylvania, U.S.) and Princeton Power Systems (Princeton, New Jersey, U.S.) plan to install a microgrid powered by 5 MW of solar photovoltaics (PV) in Equatorial Guinea, in collaboration with the nation's government. The system will supply the electricity needs of the 5,000 residents of Annobón Province, an island off the coast of Central West Africa. GE describes the Annobon Electrification Project as the largest self-sufficient solar project in the African continent. Read more

EnergyTrend: U.S. anti-subsidy ruling sets expectations for high anti-dumping tariffs

TrendForce's (Taipei) EnergyTrend division predicts that the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) will issue a “harsh” preliminary anti-dumping ruling against imports of solar photovoltaic (PV) cells and modules from China and Taiwan. The company bases this prediction on the agency's recent anti-subsidy ruling, which set tariff levels higher than a previous investigation in 2012.
