Fraunhofer ISE to work with Saudi Arabia on solar thermal, PV R&D

The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy (Freiburg, Germany) and King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (K.A. CARE, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia) have signed an agreement governing collaboration on renewable energy research and development (R&D), testing and training over the next two years. Areas of research will include solar thermal, solar photovoltaics (PV), solar cooling, energy storage and grid integration and design. Sharp quarterly solar PV sales rise to over USD 1 billion on strong Japanese demand

(Osaka, Japan) has released results for the financial quarter ending December 31st, 2013, reporting a 94% year-over-year increase in revenues to USD 1.07 billion in revenues in its Solar Cells division, which ecompasses Sharp's work in solar photovoltaics (PV). The Solar Cells division also reported a 5.5% operating income, a sequential increase and a reversal of the loss that it reported a year ago. Read more

Georgia Power Reports Status of Solar Energy Procurement for 2014

India solar: SREC trade drops to lowest level in five months

Traders exchanged 6,361 Indian solar renewable energy credits (SRECs) in January 2014, according to RESolve Energy Consultants (Chennai, India). This is the lowest level in five months. SREC prices remained at the floor price of INR 9,300 (USD 150), which they have been at since June 2013. For six of the last seven months the number of SRECs redeemed during the month has been far below the number issued, leading to a backlog of 98,660 at the end of January 2014. Read more

UK feed-in tariff to fall 3.5% for smaller solar PV plants in April 2014

The UK's Office of Electricity and Gas Markets (Ofgem) has released a new schedule of feed-in tariff rates beginning on April 1st, 2014, showing a 3.5% degression for solar photovoltaic (PV) plants smaller than 50 kW. The higher and middle rates rates for PV plants 50 kW and smaller will fall by 3.5% to GBP 0.1092-0.1438 (USD 0.178-0.235) per kWh, depending upon the size and the category. Read more

Chile to provide USD 6.4 million in support for renewable energy projects

Chile's Center for Renewable Energy (CER) has announced USD 2.3 million in funding for the development and financing of grid-tied renewable energy projects in 2014, and another USD 4.1 million for self-consumption renewable energy plants. As part of this funding, during March 2014 CER will hold two auctions. In the first, companies will compete for USD 1.8 million to support grid-tied renewable energy projects, which can be used for engineering studies. In the second, USD 4.1 million will be available to companies to invest in renewable energy for their own consumption. Read more

Daqo New Energy completes polysilicon debottlenecking project

Daqo New Energy Corp. (Chongqing, China) reports that it has completed a debottlenecking project for its Xinjiang polysilicon plant, and has begun ramping up production in newly added facilities.
