SunEdison, TerraForm Power secure USD 175 million financing for PV projects

SunEdison Inc. (Belmont, California, US) on December 23rd, 2014 announced an agreement with JPM Capital Corporation (Chicago, Illinois, US) whereby they will invest up to USD 75 million in a USD 175 million solar energy development fund. SunEdison subsidiary TerraForm Power Inc. will also invest USD 100 million in the fund, and will use the financing to purchase up to 60 megawatts of solar photovoltaic (PV) projects that SunEdison will develop and construct in 2014 and 2015. Navigant Research: Investment in micro-grid enabling technologies is expected to exceed USD 155 billion through 2023

A recent report from Navigant Research (Boulder, Colorado, US) analyzes the global market for significant micro-grid enabling technologies, including diesel generators, natural gas generators, fuel cells, solar photovoltaics (PV), distributed wind, smart inverters, advanced energy storage, and others. “Dramatic change is occurring in the micro-grid market, as the economic value that these systems bring to the overall power grid becomes more and more apparent,” says Peter Asmus, principal research analyst with Navigant Research. World Bank approves USD 130 million financing for grid connected PV, energy efficiency project in Nepal

The World Bank on December 22nd, 2014 approved a USD 130 million credit for the Nepal Grid Solar and Energy Efficiency Project to help address Nepal’s energy shortages that are a major constraint to economic growth and overcoming poverty. The project intends to increase electricity supply to the national grid through grid-connected solar photovoltaic (PV) farms and reduce distribution losses in selected distribution centers. The credit carries a 6 year grace period and a maturity of 38 years. Read more
