Armor and Cambrios enable next generation OPV

Armor (Nantes, France), a specialist in ink chemistry and printing technologies, and Cambrios Technologies Corporation (Sunnyvale, CA, US), provider of silver nanowire-based solutions for the transparent conductor markets, on November 20th, 2014 announced the development of a scalable manufacturing process allowing Armor to mass produce Organic Photovoltaic (OPV) devices. Armor has designed flexible OPV modules using Cambrios’ “ClearOhm” silver nanowires as electrodes. Read more

STA analysis: Home grown UK solar power to be cheaper than gas

The British Solar Trade Association (STA) on November 20th, 2014 published new analysis showing that the cost of generating electricity from a typical 10 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) farm in the UK is set to fall faster than many think over the next 15 years. The report “Cost reduction potential of large-scale solar PV”, is based on a survey of the trade association’s member companies and their cost forecasts between now and 2030. Read more

Trina Solar to build 10 MW PV plant in Aqaba, Jordan, financed by IFC

Trina Solar Limited (Changzhou, China) on November 19th, 2014 announced that it has entered into an agreement for the design, build and operation and maintenance of the 10 MW Shamsuna solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Aqaba, Jordan with Shamsuna Power Company. Foursan Capital Partners will hold an 85% stake and Shamsuna Power will hold a 15% stake in the PV project, respectively. The project is being financed by International Finance Corporation (IFC) and a small syndicate of lenders. Read more

China Curtails Less Wind Energy in 2014

Latest data from China's National Energy Administration shows that 8.85 GW of new wind power capacity was installed in the first nine months of 2014, bringing its total capacity to nearly 85 GW, a year-on-year increase of 22 percent. Accounting for 6.6 percent of China's total installed power capacity, wind exceeds nuclear power in installed capacity and electricity production, has become the third major power source following coal and hydro. (Luxembourg), the holding company of AEG Power Solutions Group (Zwanenburg, The Netherlands), a global provider of UPS systems and power electronic solutions for industrial, commercial, renewable and distributed energy markets, on November 19th, 2014 announced results for Q3 2014. AEG Power Solutions finished Q3 2014 with €43.9 million in orders and €47.6 million in revenue. Compared to Q3 2013, orders were €55.7million, down 21.2% and revenue was €51.5 million, down 7.5%. Variance was in line with expectations and impacted by certain closures and divestitures as well as the difficult macroeconomic environment, the company notes. Read more
