GCL-Poly warns of 2013 loss; trading of notes suspended

GCL-Poly Energy Holdings Ltd. (Hong Kong) has announced that it will report a loss in 2013 which will be “substantially less” than the USD 454 million it reported in 2012. GCL polysilicon subsidiary Jiangsu Zhongneng also expects to report a second year of losses. GCL-Poly says that this loss is due to the relatively low selling prices of solar photovoltaic (PV) products in the first three quarters of 2013, as well as impairments and provisions against intangible assets, inventory, accounts receivables and production facilities. TEL to quit amorphous silicon solar PV equipment production

IHS ranks South Africa as the world's most attractive emerging nation for solar PV

(Englewood, Colorado, U.S.) has named South Africa the most promising emerging PV market in the world. The company gave South Africa 66 points out of 100 in its Emerging PV Markets Attractiveness Index for the fourth quarter of 2013, compared to 49 for Thailand in second place. Advanced Energy to acquire AEG's German power control module business

AEG Power Solutions GmbH (Warstein-Belecke, Germany) will continue to produce Thyro family power control modules at its factory in Warstein-Belecke under new owner Advanced Energy. U.S. Farm Bill to include USD 881 million in renewable energy, efficiency funding

A new five-year agriculture bill that contains USD 881 million in mandatory funding for Energy Title programs to support renewable energy and efficiency has been approved by the U.S. House of Representatives. Programs supported by the funding include the Renewable Energy for America Program, which Agriculture Electric Coalition (AgEC) estimates has provided funding to support 6,600 renewable energy projects since 2008.
