GTM: PV Micro-inverter and DC optimizer shipments to surpass 5 GW in 2017

GTM Research (Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.) has released a new report which predicts that global shipments of module-level power electronics, a category that includes microinverter and DC optimizers, will exceed 5 GW by 2017. Only 1.1 GW of product was shipped in 2013. “The Microinverter and DC Optimizer Landscape 2014” states that the United States, UK, Germany and Australia are all promising markets for this growth. The report also finds that product value propositions are shifting to new areas, including installer operational throughput, design flexibility, and cost reductions for both labor and electrical value of systems. Skytron achieves UL certification for Power Plant Controller

Skytron Energy (Berlin) has completed the cETLus product safety test for its Power Plant Controller, earning the product approval to the UL/CSA 60950-1 equipment safety standard. With this certification, Skytron has achieved Underwriters Laboratories (UL) certification for its entire instrumentation and control range for renewable energy plants, including utility-scale solar photovoltaics (PV). The company will use the capital raised and strategic support from its new partners to advance its worldwide business expansion and drive forward the development of new branches. S.A.G. Solarstrom AG: Insolvency proceedings to be initiated in relation to S.A.G. Solar UK Ltd. according to English law

Solarstrom AG (Freiburg, Germany), requested the High Court of Justice, Chancery Division, Companies Court on January 21st, 2014 to make an administration order in relation to S.A.G. Solar UK Ltd. The company received the application on January 28th, 2014, S.A.G. Solarstrom AG reports in an ad hoc announcement. A hearing to appoint an administrator is scheduled for January 29th, 2014. Once an administrator is appointed, insolvency proceedings can be initiated according to English law. Read more

EnergyTrend: U.S. trade investigation not yet affecting Taiwanese solar PV makers

TrendForce's (Taipei City, Taiwan) EnergyTrend division predicts that the U.S. trade investigation into imports of Chinese and Taiwanese solar photovoltaic (PV) products will not affect producers until March 2014. This will be after the U.S. International Trade Commission publishes its injury finding in late February. The company forecasts increases in the prices of high-efficiency silicon wafers and PV cells during February 2014, and states that both Taiwanese and Chinese manufacturers remain optimistic about the overall market condition after the Chinese New Year, which begins on January 31st. SunPower announces USD 220 million residential solar PV lease program with Bank of America Merrill Lynch
