PV project developer Etrion issues USD 80 million private placement

Etrion Corp. (Geneva) has closed the books on a USD 80 million private placement of shares, priced at USD 0.64 per share. This represents a 9% discount on the company's 30-day volume weighted average share price. The company notes that the placement generated strong interest from investors including the Lundin family in Sweden. Funds will be used for a variety of purposes including supporting its landmark solar photovoltaic (PV) Project Salvador, which recently began construction in Chile. Read more

India solar: Very strong interest in NSM Phase 2 solar PV auction

Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) received 2.17 GW of bids for 750 MW of available solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity through an auction for phase 2, batch 1 of India's National Solar Mission (NSM), according to a report by RESolve Energy Consultants (Chennai, India). This includes 700 MW of bids for 375 MW of available capacity in the domestic content requirement (DCR) category, and 1.47 GW of bids for 375 MW of capacity in the open category. Read more

Solar PV helps meet Australian electricity demand during heatwave

Life insurance company leads USD 40 million initial investment in U.S. solar PV projects

A consortium of investors led by John Hancock Life Insurance (Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.) will provide an initial USD 40 million in equity financing to Soltage-Greenwood for the construction and operation of solar photovoltaic (PV) plants across the United States. Soltage-Greenwood expects to commission the first six PV projects in Delaware, Massachusetts, New York and Vermont by mid-2014. China’s Wind Power Sector Foresees a Recovery in 2014

Although some reports indicated that the wind power sector in China showed minimal growth in 2013, the actual situation was not so grim. Recently released statistics pointed to a recovery in the industry, with newly installed capacity rising 24 percent year on year, the bid invitation price rising nearly 15 percent, and the average year-on-year annual wind farm utilization time increasing by more than 100 hours. Newly installed capacity is expected to maintain a growth rate of 20 percent over the next few years, as the grid connection becomes easier and the Chinese government establishes more favorable policies.
