IHS: German subsidies leading to expansion of solar PV energy storage market

(Englewood, Colorado, U.S.) has stated that subsidies launched by the German government in May 2013 are already leading to a substantial expansion of the nation's solar energy storage market. 1,100 solar photovoltaic (PV) system owners have received approval for the subsidy to date for 30 MW of storage, and another 4,800 applications are being considered. The company predicts that the adoption of energy storage in Germany will continue to expand in 2014 due to both the subsidy and falling costs. Read more

Czech solar thermal subsidy gets off to difficult beginning

A large number of the applications submitted to a popular new Czech subsidy for solar thermal and other renewable heating technologies will be rejected, according to Solar Thermal World. The publication says that administrators had assigned more than 40% of the New Green Savings program budget of CZK 1 billion (USD 51 million) within five days of the program opening on August 12th, 2013. However, citing “unofficial industry information”, Solar Thermal World estimates that a third to half of this capacity will not be approved. Read more

Andrah Pradesh opens new solar PV solicitation

The Indian state of Andrah Pradesh has issued a new solicitation for solar photovoltaic (PV) development in the state, offering 20-year power purchase agreements at INR 6.49 (USD 0.0983) per kWh. Developers have until September 30th, 2013 to submit proposals for 109 locations, which will be awarded on a pro-rata basis, or at proposed new locations subject to technical criteria. This follows on the partial success of the state's earlier bidding process for 1 GW of PV, which was notable for its low level of participation. Read more

As prices of China’s polysilicon spot market continue their upward ascend, it triggered price hikes in Asia’s polysilicon market that in turn caused cost increases for wafer manufacturers, EnergyTrend, a research subsidiary of TrendForce (Taipeh, Taiwan) reports. According to TrendForce continual raw material price upticks are compressing silicon wafer manufacturers’ profits.
