Austrian brewery installs large solar thermal system to reach CO2 neutrality

With the “Green Brewery”, Göss brewery (Leoben, Austria) launched a multi-year plan to develop a CO2-neutral project. Part of Brau Union Österreich, a member of the Heineken Group, Göss is backing a series of initiatives increasing the use of renewable energy sources and reducing the consumption of heat, electricity and fuel. The company introduced a new boiling system in the brewing process, at the beginning of 2013, helping to save nearly 200,000 kilowatt-hours of power and over 6,400 m3 of water per year. In addition, a new 1,500 qm solar thermal system in future will generate a part of the heat required for the brewing process in the brew house. Read more

Infinia Corporation (Madrid, Spain), manufacturer of stirling cycle engines for concentrating solar power (CSP) systems, on September 25th, 2013, announced that the inability to obtain additional financing has forced the company to file a petition for Chapter 11 relief in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Utah to preserve the value of its business.
