ReneSola Q2 2013 revenues grow on booming shipments

ReneSola Ltd. (Jiashan, China) reports a 62% year-over-year increase in revenues to USD 377 million in the second quarter of 2013, with silicon wafer and solar photovoltaic (PV) module shipments spiking at 894 MW. This represents a 71% year-over-year increase in shipments, as well as 28% increase over the previous quarter. ReneSola also narrowed its losses, reporting an operating margin of -4.4% and a net loss of USD 21.1 million, the company's eighth quarter of operating losses. Suntech Power Holdings Company Ltd. (Wuxi, China) has announced that it is preparing to implement a recapitalization plan as part of a larger restructuring, following an agreement reached with its Creditor Working Group. This will include a debt-for-equity swap and the introduction of a new investor that will provide additional funding through the purchase of company equity. Suntech has also alluded to selling off of assets to allow it to continue operations at a “rationalized scale”, and expects to enter into a restructuring framework agreement “in the next week or so”. A new low bid of INR 5.51 (USD 0.0839) per kWh has been placed in the Indian state of Karnataka's recent solar auction, according to RESolve Energy Consultants (Chennai, India). This is the lowest bid of any auction in any state to date. RESolve has published results of the bidding for 130 MW of PV projects, listing 17 winners who will be awarded 25-year power purchase agreements for their projects. The company notes that only one other bid was below INR 6 (USD 0.091) per kWh, with the majority coming in above INR 7 (USD 0.11) per kWh. Prices for Indian solar renewable energy credits (SRECs) remained at the floor of INR 9300 (USD 142) with supply well exceeding demand in August 2013, according to an analysis by RESolve Energy Consultants (Chennai, India). Indian SREC prices fell in May 2013 and have been near or at the floor price for the last three months. Demand and supply both grew 14% during the month, and RESolve says that it does not expect oversupply conditions to be resolved any time soon. (Englewood, Colorado, U.S.) has commented on EverStream Energy Capital Management's (Minneapolis, Minnesota, U.S.) rumored takeover of Enfinity NV (Waregem, Belgium), noting that the deal will give EverStream access to a geographically diverse portfolio, including 100 MW of advanced stages solar photovoltaic (PV) projects. It also describes the acquisition as a sign of difficulties in European PV markets, which it predicts will contract 50% to only 11.5 GW in 2013.
