Tool Order: Chinese cell producer places major order with Singulus for PERC cell technology

China-based Zhejiang Fortune Photovoltaic Co (M-Cells) has placed an order with Singulus Technologies for delivery of up to 16 vacuum coating machines with conversion efficiencies of over 18% for multicrystalline solar cells. The British project planner Sustainable Renewable Technologies (SRT, Bilston Glen, UK) has been nominated for the Solar Power Portal Award for a solar photovoltaic (PV) system installed on a pyramid-shaped office building. The PV pyramid has been shortlisted for the prize in the category “Most innovative system design”. A PV mounting system designed by German manufacturer Renusol was used in the ambitious project. PlanetSolar concludes 2013 campaign in Paris after transatlantic crossing powered by PV cells

For the solar catamaran PlanetSolar, this year´s journey began on April 8 in La Ciotat (France) and came to an end on September 10th in Paris. The boat crossed the Atlantic, carried out scientific research at the Gulf Stream and raised public awareness for climate issues and solar energy. The 2013 campaign has been specifically denoted by a new record for a transatlantic crossing, set in 22 days - 4 days less than in 2010. The solar catamaran powered by approximately 38,000 photovoltaic (PV) cells, each cell offering an efficiency of at least 22 percent, sailed over 20,000 kilometers over the course of 156 days. Soitec launches 31.8% efficient solar CPV module

California finds “significant” impacts from Palen solar CSP project

SolarCity, Direct Energy partner for commercial, industrial solar PV service offering

Mercom reiterates global solar PV market forecast of 38 GW in 2013

Following the negotiated settlement of the EU trade case against Chinese solar photovoltaic (PV) imports, Mercom Capital (Austin, Texas, U.S.) has maintained its global solar market forecast of roughly 38 GW in 2013. Forecasts for individual nations also remain largely unchanged in the updated version of Mercom's analysis. The company predicts that China will be the largest market in 2013 at 8.5 GW, followed by Japan at 7 GW and the United States at GW. Read more

JA Solar to supply PV modules for massive projects in Western China, including hybrid hydro-solar plant

JA Solar Holdings Co. Ltd. (Shanghai) has begun shipments in a deal to supply 96 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) modules to a subsidiary of China Power Investment Corp. (CPI, Beijing) for two massive projects in Western China's Qinghai Province. JA Solar estimates that it will conclude shipments by the end of September 2013. The two projects in Hainan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province will be 320 MW and 200 MW in capacity, and the 320 MW project is a hybrid hydro-solar project. Read more

BNEF: Clean energy investment by development banks exceeds USD 100 billion in 2012

Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF, New York City) reports that development banks invested USD 109 billion in renewable energy, energy efficiency and electricity transmission and distribution in 2012, including at least USD 3.7 billion invested in solar projects alone. This is the first time that such investments have exceeded USD 100 billion annually, and BNEF suggests that such investments will increase again this year. BNEF's analysis looked at 26 financial institutions including KfW (Frankfurt, Germany), the China Development Bank (Beijing) and BNDES (Rio de Janeiro), which together have invested a total of USD 425 million in clean energy projects since 2007.
