IHS: Micro-inverters shipments to grow four-fold in 2017, with greater diversity of markets

IHS Inc. (Englewood, Colorado, U.S.) has released a new report which finds that the global market for micro-inverters will expand four-fold to 2.1 GW in 2017, including significant growth in markets outside the United States. Until now, micro-inverter demand has been largely confined to the U.S. residential solar photovoltaic (PV) market, but the company notes that the emphasis is shifting to the commercial market and other regions. IHS also predicts that micro-inverter prices will fall significantly by 2017. Read more

Apple to build 20 MW-AC solar PV plant in North Carolina

Apple Inc. (Cupertino, California, U.S.) has applied to the Utilities Commission in the U.S. state of North Carolina to build a 20 MW-AC solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in Catawba County. Apple expects to commission the plant in October 2013. BNEF: China to invest USD 362 billion in new solar PV

Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF, New York City) has released a new report which predicts that China will invest USD 362 billion in new solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity by 2030, and could invest as much as USD 649 billion. “The future of China's power sector” forecasts that China's electricity generation capacity will more than double by 2030, and predicts that renewables including hydroelectric plants will make up more than half of the new capacity.
