juwi group (Wörrstadt, Germany) has recently commissioned a free-field solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in Southern France, also a rooftop PV plant was connected to the grid in Japan. Near Bordeaux in the department Gironde, juwi has commissioned its eleventh solar PV park in the country. “Mios 2“ was built as an extension of the plant “Mios 1”, that was connected to the grid in 2011. Germany's Federal Network Agency reports that the nation installed 344 MW of new solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity in May 2013 through its feed-in tariff. This brings Germany to 1.49 GW installed in the first five months of 2013, a 42% decline over the same period in 2012. All told, Germany had installed 33.9 GW of PV through its feed-in tariff by the end of May 2013. Read more

Could Utility-Scale Solar Financing with Bonds Be the New Normal?

In late April, concentrated photovoltaic (CPV) manufacturer and solar project developer Soitec announced that it had finalised a bond that will be used to finance a portion of its 44 MWp CPV plant in Touwsrivier, South Africa. The bond, worth some ZAR1 billion (approximately US$85 million) is the first publicly-listed project development bond ever issued to finance a CPV solar power plant, and only the third bond issued to finance any type of solar installation worldwide. Solar Impulse flies final leg of across America journey

The solar-powered airplane of Swiss pioneers Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg will fly to New York for the fifth and last leg of its Across America mission flights on Saturday, July 6th, 2013. It is the culmination of an epic which began on May 3rd in San Francisco. Piccard and Borschberg have taken turns in the single seat cockpit with stopovers in Phoenix, Dallas, St. Louis and Cincinnati. This final leg marks the historic achievement of the coast-to-coast across America flights, which started May 3rd in San Francisco, with an airplane capable of flying day and night without fuel, powered exclusively by solar power, provided by 12,000 PV cells. AfDB Expects African Wind Power Capacity To Increase 10-Fold

Kenya Receiving Assistance from Japan on Renewable Energy Development

More Than 1 GW of CSP Headed for MENA

The number of channel partners under India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has fallen by 28 to 162 across all regions of the nation since February 2013, according to an analysis by RESolve Energy Consultants (Chennai, India). MNRE released its latest list of channel partners on July 1st, 2013. RESolve notes that while it is unsure exactly why this number has declined, 64 companies listed have not received subsidies for even one project. Read more
