In a paper presented at the IEEE PVSC (Photovoltaic Specialists Conference) being held this week, an NREL-supervised test and results showed that US-based start-up, Alta Devices had its proprietary materials in a PV module lost little efficiency at elevated temperatures, unlike conventional modules. Interest is building in the potential to issue asset-backed securities (ABS) collateralized by the receivables of solar energy companies. Solar ABS, along with real estate investment trusts (REIT) and master limited partnerships (MLP), are among the ideas emerging for expanding the capital available to renewable energy projects. LDK Solar presents new high-power modules at Intersolar Europe

LDK Solar Company Ltd. (Xinyu City, China) unveiled a new generation of solar photovoltaic (PV) modules which feature designs to withstand potentially-induced degradation (PID), lower temperature co-efficients, and higher efficiencies and power ratings at the Intersolar Europe trade show in Munich on June 19th, 2013. Among the modules the company presented were its new 270 watt, 60-cell and 310 watt, 72-cell multicrystalline silicon PV modules. LDK Solar states that these higher power ratings were made possible through its M3 wafer technology, which combined with its cell processes allows for PV cell efficiencies as high as 19%. Read more

First Solar nets USD 428 million from stock sale

First Solar Inc. (Tempe, Arizona, US) has closed its public offering of 9.75 million shares of its common stock, receiving USD 428 million in proceeds. This includes 1.25 million shares issued and sold through the exercise of the underwriters' over-allotment option. First Solar plans to use the proceeds for general corporate purposes, which may include acquisition of solar photovoltaic (PV) projects and the expansion of business units. Read more

Talesun Solar PV modules receive 1000V certification

Zhongli Talesun Solar (Suzhou, China) reports that its new 60-cell and 72-cell poly- and mono-crystalline silicon solar photovoltaic (PV) modules have received Underwriters Laboratories (UL, Northbrook, Illinois, US) 1000V certification. This new certification expands Zhongli Talesun's product offering, and the company notes that the higher voltage model will lower installation costs and improve the overall performance of commercial and utility-scale PV plants.
