BYD to build battery factory in Southern California

BYD Company Ltd. (Shenzhen, China) is building an iron phosphate battery manufacturing facility in the city of Lancaster, California, which it says will be operational “in the coming months”. BYD's iron phosphate batteries are used in its energy storage systems including its Distributed Energy Storage System, which is designed to accompany solar photovoltaic (PV) generation. The company will also open an electric bus factory in Lancaster, as its first two facilities in the United States. Read more

Canadian Solar increases 1Q 2013 module shipment estimate

Canadian Solar Inc. (Guelph, Canada) has released selected preliminary results for the first quarter of 2013, increasing its expectation for solar photovoltaic (PV) module shipments to 335 – 345 MW, roughly equal to a year prior. The company has also increased its gross margin for the quarter to an expected 9 – 10%, an increase over the 7% it reported in the first quarter of 2012.
