US solar installers in the rooftop sector including SolarCity Corporation (San Mateo, California, U.S.), Sungevity Inc. (Oakland, California, U.S.), Sunrun Inc. (San Francisco, California, U.S.) and Verengo (Orange, California, U.S.) have formed a new trade group to defend net metering policies. The Alliance for Solar Choice (TASC) states that anyone should have the option to switch from utility power to distributed solar power, and claims that utilities are trying to eliminate that choice by repealing net metering. 43 US states currently have net metering policies, which allow the electricity produced by PV system owners to be credited against usage on a 1:1 basis. Singulus may be the only solar photovoltaic (PV) equipment maker to report a year-over-year increase in revenues during this period of prolonged, deep downturn for the industry. Trade group EU ProSun has commissioned a study by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) which finds “major flaws” in a report by Prognos AG which predicted massive EU job losses if tariffs are imposed on imports of Chinese solar photovoltaic (PV) products. Among other details, PwC alleges that the Prognos study predicts job losses in excess of the total jobs in the sector. The report also finds that tariffs will have a net positive impact on employment in Europe's solar industry. (Columbia, Maryland, U.S.), a developer of see-through solar cells for generating electricity on glass windows, announced that its researchers have achieved faster fabrication time, improved transparency, and a two-fold increase in power conversion efficiency.
