Solarbuzz: Solar PV expands to “grid parity” market segments as incentives decline

Friday,.2013 - 8:30 (Solarserver)

Solarbuzz Inc. (Santa Clara, California, US) has released a new analysis which explains that while the fall in incentives led to a reduced level of solar photovoltaic (PV) market growth in 2012, PV is expanding to market segments where the technology can compete without incentives. Solarbuzz Senior Analyst Michael Barker also notes that the collapse in crystalline silicon (c-Si) PV prices has led to major changes in the solar industry, which has made it very difficult for thin-film PV start-ups to compete. Stabilization of solar PV module prices to impact Indian PV market

Friday,.2013 - 8:24 (Solarserver)

RESolve Energy Consultants (Chennai, India) states that the minor increases in solar photovoltaic (PV) module prices in February and March 2013 confirm its earlier analysis that prices could not fall further. RESolve attributes these increased prices to factors including the anti-dumping duties which are either being considered or have been imposed across various regions, the domestic demand for PV modules in China and the growth of Japan's PV market. The company also states that this has “enormous” implications for projects awarded under various Indian state policies. Read more

Meanwhile, the United States is only modestly cutting carbon emissions by transitioning from coal to natural gas, which is still a carbon-rich fuel. Read more

The Regulatory Energy Reform Imperative

Friday,.2013 - 14:00 (Renewable Energy World)

Reforming our patchwork of rules directing the electric utility industry is essential. The generation and delivery of electricity is as fundamental to our national prosperity as the air we breathe and the water we drink. Most of us rely on electricity from the moment our alarm buzzes in the morning until we turn out the lights to sleep at night. In the case of regulations affecting our natural resources, we have elected to fight back against their degradation through comprehensive federal, state and local environmental laws and regulations that by comparison to energy rules are clear and effective. By contrast, the current legal framework regulating the electric utility Read more
