US Army installs largest “solar wall” in the US

The US Army Corps of Engineers (ACE) has installed a solar thermal system with 5,100 square meters of collector area on a military warehouse in the US state of Pennsylvania, as the largest induction solar wall in the nation. The system will provide pre-heated air to handling units and large fans in the Defense Logistics Agency's (DLA) Eastern Distribution Center in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania. The two-phased solar wall contains a bottom portion of normal solar wall with a top portion that seals the air intakes. Read more

Tamil Nadu announces USD 370/kW subsidy for rooftop solar PV systems

On April 25th, 2013, the Indian state of Tamil Nadu announced a subsidy of INR 20,000 (USD 370) per kW for up to 10,000 rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) systems under the first phase of the state's solar policy. This is in addition to the 30% subsidy for solar photovoltaic systems from India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). Users can choose to either receive the subsidy or the generation based incentive (GBI) proposed under the Tamil Nadu Solar Policy. Read more

Fulai Investments Ltd. (British Virgin Islands) has agreed to purchase USD 25.7 million in newly issued shares from LDK Solar Company Ltd. (Xinyu City, China). Fulai will buy 25 million shares at USD 1.03 per share. This is the company's second purchase of LDK stock in three months, following an agreement to purchase USD 31.1 million in stock in January 2013. Read more

India solar PV installations booming

India installed 240 MW of grid-tied solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity during March 2013, according to the nation's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). This is almost as much as Germany, which installed 290 MW of PV during March 2013. The nation also installed 16.9 MW of off-grid PV during the month, which brings India to 1.69 GW of cumulative on-grid and 125 MW of off-grid PV. Read more
