Real Goods Solar to build 5.1 MW PV systems at California schools

Real Goods Solar Inc. (Louisville, Kentucky, US) subsidiary RGS Energy and Smart Energy Capital have partnered to install 5.1 megawatts (MW) solar photovoltaic (PV) systems at Stockton Unified School District's (SUSD, Stockton, California, US) schools in California. The PV systems will supply solar power to district's 18 schools and facilities in California. The PV installations include more than 17,000 solar panels that will sit atop parking lot carports on the campuses, including the district's four comprehensive high schools. On April 2nd, 2013 Chile's Ministry of Energy announced that Secretary of Energy Sergio del Campo and Telethon Foundation Executive Director Ximena Casarejos have inaugurated a solar thermal system that will provide hot water to the Telethon Institute Conception in Concepción, Chile. The solar thermal system, consisting of 24 panels in an area of 56 square meters, will satisfy the energy demand for heating 2,000 liters of water, which are mainly used to temper the pool used in the rehabilitation process.
