i-Energy installs 20 kW micro-inverter PV system in Ontario, Canada

On April 10th, 2013, i-Energy (Taipei, Taiwan), a developer and supplier of solar photovoltaic (PV) power conversion and optimization products, announced that it has commissioned a 20 kilowatt (kW) solar PV system in the City of Welland, Ontario, Canada. The PV system uses 86 i-Energy GT260 micro- inverters integrated with 230 watt (W) solar modules and 5 kW Deger Tracking Systems. The U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL, Golden, Colorado, U.S.) has launched an initiative to build an open-source database of the performance from solar facilities across the United States. NREL says that the Open Solar Performance and Reliability Clearninghouse (O-SPaRC) will improve access to capital by enabling credit rating agencies and potential investors to assess underlying risks of the asset class. NREL has contracted with SunSpec Alliance to build the database, and the project is supported by the US DOE's SunShot Initiative. On April 9th, 2013, the International Energy Agency Photovoltaic Power System Programme (IEA PVPS) released a new “snapshot” report, which describes 2012 as a year of industry consolidation and stabilization after years of rapid growth. “Snapshot of Global PV 1992-2012” estimates that 28.4 GW of PV was installed 2012, to reach 96.5 GW of cumulative capacity. It notes rapid growth in the Asia Pacific region and the Americas, the declining significance of the European market, and the global spread of PV technology. (Shanghai, China) has released financial results for the fourth quarter of 2012, reporting a 2.6% year-over-year increase in revenues to USD 187 million, but a -62% operating margin and a net loss of USD 122 million. The company's shipments also increased 33% to 302 MW, including 252 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) module shipments. Over the full year 2012, the company shipped a record 1,188 MW of PV products, but revenues declined 35% to USD 770 million, with a net loss of USD 248 million. ClearSky Advisors (Toronto, Canada) has released a report which predicts that Turkey will install more than 4 GW of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity by the end of 2017. The report finds that falling costs for PV and high retail electricity prices are driving demand without the need for additional incentives. ClearSky expects more than 600 MW of PV production licenses for plants larger than 1 MW in 2013 alone, with an even larger opportunity for smaller projects. (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada) announced that it has received a contract to install a 1 megawatt (MW) hydrogen energy storage system to be deployed in the City of Hamburg, Germany.
