Trendforce expects consolidation despite increased PV manufacturing utilization rates, prices in 2013

Trendforce's (Taipei City, Taiwan) EnergyTrend division has released a report which predicts that increased utilization rates in the solar photovoltaic (PV) industry in the first quarter of 2013 will last throughout the year, and that spot prices will increase. This will be driven by both a slight increase in global demand to 32-34 GW in 2013 and reduced supply. The company's ?Gold Member Report? states that some manufacturers which lack the technology to enhance cell production will be phased out, and that new and smaller manufacturers may also be driven out. Sungrow supplies inverters for 30 MW of solar PV projects in Greece

Sungrow Power Supply Company Ltd. (Hefei, China) has supplied inverters for 30 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) plants under construction by Aktor SA (Athens, Greece) in Greece. Sungrow delivered 500 kW and 630 kW transformerless central inverters for the projects. Both models have been certified by TÜV and BDEW, which the company says is the result of high DC voltage, strong overload capacity and adaptability to high-low temperature shifts. Read more

Solarbuzz: Solar PV demand from Middle East, Africa to reach 1 GW in 2013

NPD Solarbuzz (Santa Clara, California, US) has released a new report which predicts that annual solar photovoltaic (PV) demand from the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region will reach 1 GW in 2013, to reach 3.7 GW by 2017. ?Middle East and Africa PV Market Report? notes that 1 GW would represent a 625% increase from the 136 MW installed in the region in 2012. Solarbuzz credits the introduction of ?ambitious? funding programs in South Africa, Israel and Saudi Arabia for the expected increase. Read more

Solarpack begins construction of 25 MW solar PV plant in Northern Chile

Solarpack (Getxo, Spain) has begun construction of a 25 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant for a mining company in the Tarapacá Region of Northern Chile. Solarpack expects to complete the plant for Compañía Doña Inés de Collahuasi in September 2013. Martifer Solar completes 4.26 MW of solar PV projects in Spain

Cape Wind Finds Financing Partner, Enters Home Stretch

One of the final steps for the Cape Wind offshore wind project in Massachusetts is being made, with the signing of Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ (BTMU) to arrange debt financing. BTMU itself is pitching in "a significant amount of debt capital" which will go toward development and construction costs. (Barclays will continue to advise Cape Wind, while the group and BTMU nail down the rest of the needed financing.) Read more
