Advanced Energies revenues dip slightly in 4Q 2012, inverter sales strong

Advanced Energy Industries Inc. (AE, Fort Collins, Colorado, US) has released financial results for the fourth quarter of 2012, reporting a 2.6% year-over-year decline in revenues in its Solar Energy Business Unit to USD 59.6 million. The division also achieved an operating margin of 5.6%, and AE states that demand for its power management solutions remained strong. Across both business units the company achieved USD 113 million in revenues and a 4.9% operating margin. Read more

Spain cuts feed-in tariff, again

On February 1st, 2013 the government of Spain approved retroactive changes to the nation's feed-in tariff system, including changing the formula for payment to a fixed price based on the regulated tariff formula. The government states that this will prevent volatility in cost estimates, and will save between EUR 250 to 500 million (USD 340 to 680 million) annually. A second change unlinks feed-in tariff payments from the consumer price index, further reducing payment levels. Read more

Power-One revenues climb slightly on strong PV inverter sales in 2012

Power-One Inc. (Camarillo, California, US) has released results for the fourth quarter of 2012, reporting a 2.1% year-over-year increase in revenues to USD 123 million and an operating margin of -6.9% in its Renewable Energy business. During the quarter the company shipped 628 MW of inverters, bringing Power-One to 3.6 GW over the full year, a 23% increase over 2011. However, full year 2012 Renewable Energy revenues increased only 6.6% to USD 743 million. Read more

Sharp PV cell sales fall slightly

Sharp Corporation (Osaka, Japan) reports that its sales of solar photovoltaic (PV) cells fell 6.5% year-over-year to USD 1.61 billion in the most recent nine-month period. The third quarter of Sharp's fiscal year 2013 ended on December 31st, 2012. The company credits the fall in revenues to a decline in overseas demand, slightly offset by a sales increase into the Japanese PV market. Read more

EnergyTrend: Taiwan-based solar cell producers shipments reach record in 2012

Solar trade war: Trade complaint filed at the European Commission over solar glass imports

EU ProSun Glass is supported by EU ProSun, the coalition whose filings initiated European trade investigations of imported PV products from China. Connecticut solar rebate levels step down to USD 1.75 per watt

DelSolar PV modules achieve 1,000 V certification

On February 1st, 2013, DelSolar Co. Ltd. (Taipei, Taiwan) announced that its solar photovoltaic (PV) modules have passed 1,000 volt UL certification. DelSolar states that it is the first solar company in Taiwan to receive this certification. The company's 60-cell and 72-cell modules, including the D6C_B3A-WS, D6S_B3A-WSf, D6C_B4A-WS and D6S_B4A-WSf solar module series, have all qualified under the test. Read more
