PV inverter producer Mastervolt closes sales office in Germany due to consolidation

Solar photovoltaic (PV) inverter manufacturer Mastervolt International BV (Amsterdam, Netherlands) is carrying out an organizational consolidation affecting Germany and Italy. Mastervolt henceforth will provide sales and service activities for Germany from its headquarter office in Amsterdam. Italian customers will still be served via the distributor Mastervolt Italia Srl. The local sales offices in Cologne (Germany) and Gallarate (Italy) will be closed by the end of February, 2013. Read more

Cencorp acquires Sunweb solar PV module business, plans Finnish PV manufacturing

Cencorp Corporation (Virkkala, Finland) has completed the acquisition of Sunweb Solar Energy Holding BV's (Geldorp, The Netherlands) solar photovoltaic (PV) module business, for a price of EUR 930,000 (USD 1.3 million). The purchase includes Sunweb's pilot PV production line, the Sunweb trademark, as well as patents and other intellectual property rights. Cencorp states that the acquisition strengthens its plans to develop PV module manufacturing in Finland. Read more

NPD Solarbuzz: PV modules not yet fully commoditized

NPD Solarbuzz Senior Analyst Michael Barker has published an analysis of the global solar photovoltaic (PV) market which looks at the variation in PV module prices, with variations by technology, origin, brand and other factors. Barker notes that while true technology differentiation has been minimal in the crystalline silicon PV module space over the past few years, some manufacturers have been successful in commanding premium pricing during 2012 based on perceptions of brand quality. He notes that such differentiation is stronger in the thin film space. Read more

Magnolia Solar makes progress with AR coatings

SunEdison to build 100 MW solar PV plant for Chilean mining company

SunEdison LLC (Beltsville, Maryland, US) has signed an agreement with mining and steel company CAP SA (Santiago, Chile) to build a 100 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in Chile's Atacama Desert. The plant will comprise more than 300,000 MEMC Silvantis monocrystalline PV modules mounted on SunEdison trackers, and produce an estimated 15% of the CAP Group's energy needs. SunEdison expects to complete the first phase of the plant by the end of 2013. Read more

Kyocera's solar business booms

Revenues in Kyocera Corporation's (Kyoto, Japan) Applied Ceramics Group, which includes its solar photovoltaic (PV) business, increased 2.3% to EUR to USD 1.49 billion in the nine months ending December 31st, 2012. The company credits growth in its solar energy business, and notes that operating profit for this division increased. While PV demand was focused in Japan, European PV sales actually fell. Read more

MEMC, Flextronics reach 1 million solar PV modules produced in Malaysia

On January 29th, 2013 MEMC Electronic Materials Inc.'s (St. Peters, Missouri, US) Singapore subsidiary celebrated the production of its one-millionth MEMC Silvantis solar photovoltaics (PV) module at a Flextronics facility in Malaysia. Flextronics began manufacturing PV modules for MEMC at its facility in Port of Tanjung Pelepas, Malaysia in May 2011, following the establishment of a strategic relationship between the two companies. These modules have been installed globally in commercial and utility-scale PV installations by MEMC's SunEdison subsidiary. Read more
