On October 1st, 2013 Ronald Binz withdrew his name from the nomination to lead the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), a process which he described as a “blood sport”. Binz had come under heavy attack by members of the opposition Republican Party and interests aligned with the nation's coal industry, and noted that his nomination would likely not pass the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.
