Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc., (Irvine, CA, U.S.) on October 24th, 2013, announced that it has extended its family of 650V silicon carbide (SiC) Schottky Barrier Diodes (SBD). This is the third consecutive project for the Bangkok-based Siam Solar Energy 1 Co. Ltd. (SSE1), a subsidiary of Thai Solar Energy Company Limited (TSE). Conergy has built power plants for SSE1 with a total capacity of more than 70 megawatts since the fall of 2012. Power-One (Camarillo, California, U.S.) unveiled a new mobile application for its Aurora Vision monitoring products and a new residential string inverter at the Solar Power International Trade Show in Chicago on October 21st, 2013. Power-One says that its new UNO 7.6-8.6 single-phase string inverters round out its residential product line. The inverters offer a maximum efficiency rating of 97.5%, as well as offering a dual MPPT and wide input voltage range selection. The International Energy Agency's (Paris) Photovoltaic Power System Programme (IEA PVPS) finds that solar photovoltaics (PV) have reached a point where it is beginning to develop regardless of financial support, but that feed-in tariffs remain the primary market driver. IEA PVPS' 18th “Trends in Photovoltaic Applications” report, finds that feed-in tariff policies were responsible for 61% of the global PV market in 2012. However, it also finds that “purely competitive” PV installations including self-consumption represented 12% of the market during the year.
