PV inverter producer Bonfiglioli joins HDPV alliance

The HDPV Alliance, an industry initiative aimed at reducing photovoltaic (PV) balance of system (BOS) costs while increasing energy production from PV power plants, on October 22nd, 2013, announced that Bonfiglioli Riduttori S.p.a. (Bologna, Italy) has joined HDPV as a member of the steering committee. The HDPV Alliance uses defined standards, tested compatibility and shared best practices to enable members across the PV value chain to deliver products and services that optimize PV systems using a distributed power conversion (DPC) design. DOE Awards $60 Million To Support Solar R&D

Building on President Obama’s broad-based plan to cut carbon pollution and support clean energy innovation across the country, Energy Secretary Moniz announced on Tuesday that he would be releasing about $60 million in funding to support innovative solar energy research and development. NRG Energy introduces solar PV canopy, new battery storage options

(Princeton, NJ, U.S.), through its subsidiary NRG Solar LLC on October 22nd, 2013, announced the offering of the NRG Solar Canopy, which expands the viability of solar photovoltaic (PV) installations beyond large rooftop structures in conjunction with existing solar PV systems, as well as to new business types. Using a modular kit produced by Sunora Energy Solutions (Phoenix, AZ, U.S.), a wholly owned subsidiary of NRG Solar, the modular design reduces cost and time of installation without sacrificing customization. Canadian Solar to supply 1.78MW of PV modules to Saudi Aramco's KAPSARC project in Saudi Arabia

(Guelph, Ontario, Canada) on October 21st, 2013, announced that it has been awarded a contract to supply solar photovoltaic (PV) modules totalling 1.78MW to Saudi Aramco's King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC) solar photovoltaic (PV) power project in Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi ARAMCO), the world's largest crude oil producer, has awarded Canadian Solar for extension of the KAPSARC Solar Power Project which, once completed, will be largest ground mounted solar PV power plant in Saudi Arabia. Schneider Electric, Fonroche to build 40 MW solar PV plant in Puerto Rico

Schneider Electric SA (Reuil-Malmaison, France) has announced that it is partnering with Fonroche (Roquefort, France) to build a 40 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in Puerto Rico, which will operate at 1000 V-DC. Schneider Electric says that it was selected by Fonroche in part to help meet the technical requirements in Puerto Rico, which include measures to protect the grid from excessively rapid ramping of power and power system modeling. Chemical manufacturer Croda invests USD 2.3 million in solar PV plant at New Castle, Delaware

On October 18th, 2013 chemical manufacturer Croda Inc. (Edison, New Jersey, USA) started construction of a 777 Kilowatt (kW) solar photovoltaic (PV) plant at its manufacturing site in New Castle, Delaware (USA). The PV plant will cost USD 2.3 million and is expected to be completed by the end of the year. U.S. DOE to release USD 60 million solar research and development funding

India reached 2.1 GW of cumulative grid-tied and off-grid solar photovoltaic (PV) installations at the end of August 2013, according to figures from the nation's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). Egypt opens solicitation for 20 MW solar PV project

After received financing from the French Development Agency (AFD), Egypt opened a solicitation for developers to build a 20 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in the Aswan Governate on October 20th, 2013. According to Al Borsa newspaper, 23 Egyptian and international companies will bid to build the plant in Kom Ombo on a build-own-operate basis.
