On January 24th, 2013, Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) has released new figures showing that utilities worldwide will spent USD 13.9 billion in 2012 on smart grid technologies, a 7% increase from 2011 spending. According to the Georgia solar energy map, the state's installed solar photovoltaic (PV) generation capacity has reached 21 megawatt (MW). Construction on the project in De Aar, South Africa, will begin in January 2013, and must be completed in one year. IHS Solar (El Segundo, California, US) has released a white paper which predicts that the global solar photovoltaic (PV) market will grow another 9.4% in 2013 to reach 35 GW, but that industry revenue will fall slightly to USD 75 billion during the year. IHS also notes the increasing geographic diversification of PV markets, forecasting that Europe will represent only 39% of global PV installations in 2013, down from 53% in 2012. The company expects Asia to replace Europe as the world's largest PV market in coming years, with China replacing Germany as the largest national market in 2013.
