IKEA commissions PV plants on 21st, 22nd stores in the U.S.

On July 11th and July 12th, 2012, IKEA (Delft, The Netherlands) announced the commissioning of its 21st and 22nd solar photovoltaic (PV) plants on its stores in the U.S. states of Virginia and Florida. The PV plant on its store in Woodbridge, Virginia is the state's largest PV plant at 504 kW, and the PV plant on its store in Tampa, Florida has a capacity of 1.19 MW. IKEA is building PV plants at an additional 17 locations, and when these are complete the company will have 38 MW of operational PV in the United States. Read more

PV equipment and technology provider centrotherm photovoltaics AG can proceed with reorganization in insolvency protection proceedings under own administration

The District Court of Ulm (Germany) has today approved the application submitted by centrotherm photovoltaics AG (Blaubeuren, Germany) to initiate insolvency protection proceedings under its own administration (pursuant to the German Act Relating to the Further Simplification of the Reorganization of Companies [ESUG], and Section of the German Insolvency Directive [InsO]). This ruling now leaves the way free for the company to consistently pursue the reorganization program that it has launched, the company emphasizes. Read more

Bihar state, India pre-approves developers to build 198 MW of PV

The State Investment Promotion Board in the state of Bihar, India has pre-approved a list of 10 developers to build 198 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) plants in Bihar. This list is now awaiting approval by the Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency. Once approved and built, the developers will sell the electricity that the plants generate to the Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB) through power purchase agreements. The 16 plants proposed by the developers range in size from 5 MW to 40 MW. Read more

Cogenra installs 122-kW hybrid solar energy system at a hotel in El Salvador

On July 10th, 2012, Cogenra Solar (Mountain View, California, U.S.) announced that it has installed a 122 kilowatt (kW) roof-top solar cogeneration system at the Hotel Real InterContinental in San Salvador, El Salvador. A part of the Real Hotels and Resorts/InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), the five-star, 234-room resort is the world's first hotel to implement solar cogeneration technology, delivering heat and electricity on demand. SMA Solar sees third straight day of losses, lowest intraday value to date

Bloomberg has reported that since centrotherm photovoltaics filed for bankruptcy protection, SMA Solar Technology has suffered three straight days of losses, with the company falling to a record low in intraday value. Grace Solar expects to complete 902kW Auckland PV project by August

Premier Power, WePower Ecolutions to acquire up to 45% equity stake in Skybridge

Premier Holding and WePower Ecolutions have signed a letter of intent with Skybridge Solar, which would see the companies assuming an equity position between 30-45% in Skybridge. Skybridge is in the midst of developing four early-stage projects in three states with a total potential capacity of nearly 400MW. Italy?s ?6 billion PV limit breached; Conto Energia V to launch in August

The uncertainly engulfing the Italian solar industry has finally been lifted by the Gestore dei Servici Energetici (GSE). The energy board has notified the Autorità per l?energia elettrica e il gas (AEEG) that the Italian solar PV industry has reached the ?6 billion benchmark. Parabel constructs 50MW Krempendorf PV project

After completing and connecting the 40.5MW Jännersdorf PV plant to the grid in June, Parabel has now begun construction of a 50MW PV plant at a site approximately 10km away, the company has announced. The Jännersdorf site?s ?sister project? is in Krempendorf, which is part of the Jännersdorf military area. Parabel founded four companies to realize projects varying from eight to 20MW on a site of approximately 70 hectares. The company is convinced that the Marienfliess Solar Cluster, consisting of Jännersdorf and Kremendorf, will be completed with its planned 90MW and it is already looking to connect further projects totaling 80MW in the region. ReneSola supplies Big Solar with 100MW of modules

ReneSola has entered into a supply agreement with Greek Big Solar, the company has announced. Under the agreement, ReneSola will provide Big Solar with 100MW of its Virtus PV modules. ReneSola further announced the revision of its 2012 half year shipment guidance of wafers and modules, which is expected to be up to 1GW. The company assumes that the full year shipments with be up to 2.4GW compared to previous estimation of approximately 2GW. Read more

Indonesian PT Pertamina and PT LEN sign MoU for solar power

Indonesian State oil and gas company PT Pertamina has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with PT LEN to develop a local PV industry, the company has announced. The current Indonesian solar capacity is 17MW and PT Pertamina hopes to boost the solar industry by producing solar cells locally instead of having to import them. To date, only modules and PV systems are manufactured in Indonesia, cells have to be imported. Read more

SPG Solar launches new single-axis tracker at ISNA trade show

Wepower to acquire equity stake in Skybridge Solar

BNEF: Global solar investments climb 19% in 2Q 2012

Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF, New York, New York, U.S.) has released data and analysis showing that global investments in solar technologies and assets increased 19% in the second quarter of 2012 to USD 33.6 billion, part of USD 59.6 invested in clean energy overall during the quarter. Investments in China represented over 30% of the total at USD 18.3 billion during the quarter. BNEF notes that investments in technology and equipment providers remained depressed in the second quarter of 2012, while asset investment was strong, with record levels of investment in small solar photovoltaic (PV) plants. SkyPower seeks CAN$100 million in damages from Ontario government
