Zentric to terminate purchase of 1.6 MW of PV projects in North America

On June 15th, 2012, Zentric Inc. (Phoenix, Arizona, U.S.) announced that it has decided to terminate an agreement to purchase two separate 800 kilowatt (kW) solar photovoltaic (PV) plants in Leicester, North Carolina. Zentric President William Tien, Innovative Solar I LLC and Innovative Solar II LLC have mutually agreed to terminate this purchase. On June 19th, 2012 the U.S. Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) announced that it has approved USD 185 million in financing for the construction of two 20 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plants in Peru. The financing will allow Conduit Capital Partners LLC (New York, New York, U.S.) to finance the construction of the Tacna and Panamericana solar plants in the south of Peru. This project follows OPIC's June 2011 approval of USD 123 million in financing for another two 20 MW PV plants in Peru. Singulus Technologies AG (Kahl Am Main, Germany) presented a new system for manufacturing copper indium gallium diselenide (CIGS) solar photovoltaic (PV) modules at the 2012 Intersolar Europe trade show in Munich. The Clustertool is a modular system that Singulus says can assist in the development of innovative large-scale manufacturing processes. Speaking at the Institute of International and European Affairs (IIEA) in Dublin, Ireland, the minister of new and renewable energy, Dr Farooq Abdullah, said a renewable energy deployment plan has been developed. India is aiming to accelerate the number of solar installations in the country to reach its target capacity of 30GW by 2017 and 15% of its electricity to be generated from renewable sources by 2020. On June 19th, 2012 Brightsource Energy Inc. (Oakland, California, U.S.) released an update on the progress of its 392 MW Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating Station, estimating that construction of the project is 40% complete. 2000 workers are currently on site lifting tower and boiler sections into place, installing power plant equipment in the power block and installing heliostats. The company also notes that on April 24th, 2012 USC CMAA Green Symposium recognized the Ivanpah SEGS for "2012 Energy Project of the Year". Canadian Solar plans to begin construction in 2012 on the plants, which range in size from 2 MW to 29 MW, and complete the last project in 2014. On June 18th, 2012 Japan's Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry (METI) approved a system of feed-in tariffs for renewable energy generation for the nation, including rates of JPY 42/kWh (USD 0.53/kWh) for solar photovoltaic (PV) generation. The system offers 20-year contracts for PV plants larger than 10 kW, and 10 years for PV plants smaller than 10 kW. Japan's feed-in tariffs will go into effect on July 1st, 2012.
