Wattner acquires 24 MW of PV plants for its SunAsset 2 and 3 funds

On April 5th, 2012 Wattner AG (Cologne, Germany) announced that it has purchased 24 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) plants in Germany for a total of EUR 49 million (USD 64 million). The company will incorporate the Torno I, II, and III plants into the Wattner SunAsset 2 and 3 funds. The PV plants were built in October 2011 in the German state of Saxony. Read more

PV inverter producer Sustainable Energy Technology grants stock options to key employees, officers

Long Island Power Authority reduces rates for grid-connected PV installations

The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) is offering its customers rebates for grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) systems as part of the Solar Pioneer and Solar Entrepreneur programs. Renewable portfolio standard acceleration bill passes Maryland Senate

On April 4th, 2012 the Senate in the U.S. state of Maryland approved a bill to decrease the timeframe for solar photovoltaic (PV) requirements in the state's renewable portfolio standard policy (RPS), which analysts say will also have a positive impact on the pricing of solar renewable energy credits. The bill also authorizes the state's Public Service Commission to create an equivalent certification system for energy generated by solar water heating systems. As similar legislation has passed the Maryland House of Representatives, SB 791 will now go to Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley for approval. Read more

Bridge to India: 3.4 GW potential market in PV for telecom towers in India

On April 1st, 2012 Bridge to India (New Delhi, India) released an analysis of the nation's market for solar photovoltaic (PV) market for telecom tower systems, estimating that such systems will represent a 3.4 GW opportunity in the next five years to 2016. In its latest India Solar Compass, Bridge to India states that the PV telecom tower market is becoming the most popular among diesel-parity based PV market segments. The company states that the new popularity of PV systems as a power solution for telecom towers is the result of cost reductions for PV modules. Read more

First PV micro-inverter maker goes public: Enphase closes IPO with net proceeds of USD 54.6 million

On April 4th, 2012 Enphase Energy Inc. (Petaluma, California, U.S.) announced that it has closed its public offering (IPO) for 10.3 million shares of its common stock at a price of USD 6 per share, for a total of USD 61.9 million. These 10.3 million shares include 1.35 million shares sold through an over-allotment option, which was exercised in full. Net proceeds to Enphase will total roughly USD 54.6 million, after expenses including underwriters' discounts. Read more

Cleantech Group reports USD 249 million of investments in the global solar industry

On April 5th, 2012 Cleantech Group LLC (San Francisco, California, U.S.) announced results from its quarterly clean technology venture investment analysis, estimating that global investments in the solar industry totaled USD 249 million. Overall, the group estimates that USD 1.81 billion was invested in the clean technology sector, a 19% decrease from the previous quarter. Cleantech Group's i3 platform reports 185 deals in the first quarter of 2012, an increase from 176 in fourth quarter 2011, and the group states that this may increase once all investors have reported all deals. First Solar finalizes sale of Antelope Valley Solar One project to Exelon

On April 5th, 2012 Exelon Corporation (Chicago, Illinois, U.S.) and First Solar Inc. (Tempe, Arizona, U.S.) announced that the Antelope Valley Solar One (AVSR1) solar photovoltaic (PV) plant has received the first advance of a loan backed by the U.S. Department of Energy's Loan Guarantee program. This disbursement satisfied a condition of the sale of the project and thus finalizes Exelon's ownership of the AVSR1 plant, which is currently under construction. The first phase of the plant is expected to come online in late 2012, with the entire 230 MW to be commissioned in late 2013. Read more

National Solar Power chooses SolarWorld modules for up to 700 MW of PV projects in Florida

On April 5th, 2012 National Solar Power Partners LLC (Melbourne, Florida, U.S.) announced that it has selected SolarWorld AG (Bonn, Germany) to supply solar photovoltaic (PV) modules for three projects totaling 700 MW under development in the U.S. state of Florida. National Solar Power states that it signed the purchase order with SolarWorld, which could include millions of PV modules, following a lengthy review including a tour of SolarWorld's PV factory in the U.S. state of Oregon. LG Electronics buys 1.5 million kWh of green power for headquarters building New Jersey

On April 5th, 2012, LG Electronics USA (Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, U.S.) announced that it is purchasing green power for its Englewood Cliffs headquarters building in cooperation with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Green Power Partnership. The company is buying more than 1.5 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green power over the next 18 months, which is enough green power to meet 100% of the headquarters' electricity use. Read more
