SMA Multicluster box eases rural electrification

On March 20th, 2012, SMA America LLC (Rocklin, California, U.S.) announced that it has introduced Multicluster Box, an off-grid AC distribution hub that manages a variety of renewable and combustion generation sources for large-scale Sunny Island multi-cluster systems. The Multicluster Box, which is now available for the North American market, is ideal for systems up to 110 kilowatt (kW). Read more

On March 19th, 2012, SoloPower (San Jose, California, U.S.), a manufacturer of high efficiency, lightweight and flexible thin-film solar cells and modules, announced that it has appointed General (Retired) Wesley K. Clark to its board of directors as an independent director. Clark is a former NATO Supreme Allied Commander, Europe and a former U.S. Presidential candidate. Read more

Dyesol builds large BIPV modules, installs DSC windows in Korea

On March 20th, 2012, Dyesol Inc., a subsidiary of Dyesol Ltd. (Queanbeyan, Australia), and DyeTec Solar announced that they have overcome challenges associated with assembly of large glass-based Dye Sensitized Solar Cell (DSC) panels for Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) applications. The resulting prototype panels due to the producer exceed 1.20 meters by 60 centimeters in size and represent the largest continuous substrate, single circuit series-connected DSC device made to-date. Sonnedix acquires French 5.4 MW PV plant from Element Power

On March 12th, 2012, Sonnedix (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) announced that it has acquired a 5.4 megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic (PV) ground mounted facility in France from Element Power Solar. The company did not disclose the financial terms. The solar facility, located in St Martin Lalande, near Carcassonne, France, is expected to generate in excess of 6,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of solar power per annum. Intersolar India 2012: India's largest exhibition and conference for the solar industry opens its doors once again

The international solar industry is meeting at Intersolar India for the fourth time. From November 6 ? 8, 2012, the spotlight in hall 1 of the Bombay Exhibition Centre (BEC, Mumbai, India) will shine exclusively on solar power. Here, 350 exhibitors are expected to present their latest products and services from photovoltaics and solar thermal technologies to trade visitors across an exhibition space covering 20,000 square meters. SolTherm installs 64-panel solar water heating system at U.S. university dormitory

On March 21st, 2012, SolTherm (Asheville, North Carolina, U.S.) announced that it has installed a 64-panel solar thermal water heating system at the University of North Carolina (UNC) ? Asheville. The system will help the university cut annual hot water costs by 29%. The student dormitory is expected to save more than USD 81,000 over the life of the system. Read more

UNI-SOLAR to supply PV laminates for 4.33 MW BIPV roof project at Italian trade fair

On March 21st, 2012 United Solar Ovonics (UNI-SOLAR, Auburn Hills, Michigan, U.S.) announced that it has sold 4.33 MW of its solar photovoltaic (PV) laminates for installation on pavilions at an Italian trade fair. Over 34,000 UNI-SOLAR modules will be factory bonded to standing metal seam roofing for the 16 main pavilions of the Fiera di Rimini Trade Fair. Green Utility will own and develop the project, which it expects to commission in the first half of 2012. Acea SpA (Rome, Italy) will provide engineering, procurement and construction services. U.S. President Obama speaks at Copper Mountain Solar 1 facility: "That?s just the beginning"

On March 21st, 2012, President Barack Obama visited the Copper Mountain Solar 1 facility in Boulder City, Nevada. Owned by Sempra Generation, Copper Mountain is the largest photovoltaic (PV) plant in the country. Obama appreciated Sempra and Boulder City for the solar energy project, which produces enough clean energy to power around 17,000 homes. Read more
