Camco, Rex Investment receive USD 4.7 million contract for off-grid PV in Tanzania

On March 21st, 2012 Camco International Ltd. (Jersey, England) and Rex Investment Ltd. (RIL, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania) announced that a U.S. government foreign aid agency has awarded their joint venture a USD 4.7 million contract to supply and install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in off-grid communities in rural Tanzania. Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) awarded the contract for the Kigoma Solar Project, which the companies expect to begin in May 2012 and complete by July 2013. On March 19th, 2012, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E, San Francisco, California, U.S.) announced that it expects to issue its 2012 Solar Photovoltaic Power Purchase Agreement Request for Offers (PV PPA RFO) in late March or April 2012. PG&E plans to procure 50 MW-AC of new PV generation in this second round of the program. On March 20th, 2012 Stion Corporation (San Jose, California, U.S.) announced that it will begin shipping copper indium gallium diselenide (CIGS) solar photovoltaic (PV) modules with power ratings up to 140 watts from its production facility in the U.S. state of Mississippi before the end of March 2012. The first phase of the factory in Hattiesburg, Mississippi will have the capacity to produce 100 MW of CIGS PV modules annually, with a total annual capacity of 500 MW planned for the facility.
