Intertek has awarded Seraphim a salt mist corrosion certificate for all of its solar PV modules as dictated under the IEC 61701 standard. Seraphim?s modules underwent, and passed, various salt, mist and corrosion tests, which resulted in the modules passing ability to tolerate harsh natural environments. The company noted that the tests and resulting certificate confirms its modules ability to be used in a coastal environment or regions with high levels of rain, fog and acidity while maintaining a high level of performance. On February 13th, 2012 Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BofA Merrill, New York, New York, U.S.) announced the closing of an initial transaction to finance 5 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) plants at 15 sites for a school district in Southern California. GCL Solar Energy Inc. (San Francisco, California, U.S.) is currently developing the PV plants for the Palmdale School District in Palmdale, California. BofA Merrill states that it intends for this transaction to be the beginning of a relationship whereby it will provide funding for a portion of GCL's 1 GW PV project portfolio. The CPV solar cell business segment of Emcore accounted for US$19.1 million or 51% of the company?s total revenue in its FY2012 first quarter, representing a decline of US$2 million from the prior quarter. However, Emcore reported a CPV cell order backlog of approximately US$51.7 million, an increase from US$43.5 million in the prior quarter. The order increase was due to the first order from its China-based JV CPV module operations, Suncore, which is starting assembly operations to meet a US$100 million project contract in the country. On February 13th, 2012 EuPD Research (Bonn, Germany) announced that it has awarded the "TOP BRAND PV" seal of approval to Suntech Power Holdings Company Ltd. (Wuxi, China), as an indication of customer loyalty and satisfaction with its solar photovoltaic (PV) modules. The award is based on the results of EuPD's installer and end-customer surveys. DuPont (Wilmington, Delaware, U.S.) has announced a USD 100 million agreement under which it will supply Yingli Green Energy Holding Company Ltd. (Baoding, China) with materials including metallization pastes and backsheets for solar photovoltaic (PV) module production. The agreement was signed in a ceremony on February 13th, 2012 organized by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Chinese Ministry of Commerce in Washington D.C., United States. The participation of the two agencies is notable given that both have open investigations of the other nation regarding the trade of photovoltaic (PV) products. On February 14th, 2012 Borrego Solar Systems Inc. (San Diego, California, U.S.) announced that it has closed a new USD 47 million fund with partners U.S. Bank (Minneapolis, Minnesota, U.S.) and East West Bank (Pasadena, California, U.S.) to finance solar projects for corporate, educational and municipal customers. The fund will be used to build 6 MW of PV plants in California including ten projects at three school districts, as well as two PV plants in Massachusetts. On February 14th, 2012 Energy Conversion Devices Inc. (ECD, Rochester Hills, Michigan, U.S.) filed for Chapter 11 protection in U.S. bankruptcy court. As part of its bankruptcy plan, the company plans to sell subsidiary United Solar Ovonic LLC (UNI-SOLAR, Auburn Hills, Michigan, U.S.) as well as other assets. UNI-SOLAR will continue to operate during the sale process, and has also filed for Chapter 11 relief. A day prior on February 13th, 2012 ECD sold subsidiary Ovonic Battery Company Inc.
