Blue Energy to build 155 MW solar PV plant in Ghana

On December 4th, 2012 Blue Energy (Aldery Edge, UK) announced that subsidiary Mere Power Nzema Ltd. (Ghana) will build a 155 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in Ghana, as the largest PV plant in the continent of Africa. The USD 400 million project will be the first to proceed under Ghana's 2011 Renewable Energy Act, which created a national system of feed-in tariffs. The plant will be built in the East Nzema district of Western Ghana, and will increase the nation's electricity generating capacity by 6%. Read more

ABB wins orders to supply 64 MW of solar PV plants in South Africa

On December 4th, 2012 ABB (Zurich, Switzerland) announced that it has been awarded roughly USD 225 million in contracts to supply two solar photovoltaic (PV) plants totaling 64 MW to be built in South Africa. ABB will supply turnkey solutions for the plants, including design, engineering, installation and commissioning, and will additionally supply inverters, protection equipment, switchgear, transformers and controllers, as well as supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems. This includes 241 MW added in the third quarter of 2012, and a total of 999 MW added in 25,500 plants in the first three quarters of the year. Toshiba has sold SunPower PV modules for Japanese residential PV installations since 2010. Additionally, SunPower has signed an agreement to supply its T5 Solar Roof Tile to Kubokura Densetsu Co. Deutsche Bank to finance 49MW-AC of Canadian Solar PV projects in Ontario

(Guelph, Canada) has signed a financing agreement through which Deutsche Bank AG (Frankfurt, Germany) will provide USD 139 million in short-term construction financing for five solar photovoltaic (PV) projects totaling 49MW-AC in the Canadian Province of Ontario. The loan facility is intended to support the simultaneous construction of all five PV plants, and Canadian Solar intends to repay the loans with proceeds from the sale of the projects.
