On December 10th, 2012, GL Garrad Hassan (Hamburg, Germany), part of the GL Group's renewables business segment, announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the China Electrical Power Research Institute (CEPRI, Nanjing, China). The partners plan to establish a strategic cooperation in the area of photovoltaic (PV) inverter measurement and testing. Read more

Jordan passes feed-in tariffs for PV, CSP

The Kingdom of Jordan has adopted a system of feed-in tariffs for renewable energy generation including solar photovoltaics (PV) and concentrating solar power (CSP), as reported by energy policy expert Paul Gipe of Wind-Works. The prices are described as a "ceiling tariff", with PV set at USD 0.163/kWh and CSP at USD 0.183/kWh. The tariffs do not include different tranches for size, and the nation's Electricity Regulatory Commission can end the program when the total installed capacity of renewables reaches 500 MW. Yingli supplies 25 MW of PV modules to Queen Creek PV plant in Phoenix, Arizona

On December 10th, 2012, Yingli Green Energy Holding Co. Ltd. (Baoding, China) announced that its subsidiary Yingli Green Energy Americas (San Francisco, California) has supplied 25 megawatts (MW) of solar photovoltaic (PV) modules to Queen Creek power plant in Phoenix, Arizona. The Queen Creek facility includes more than 90,000 Yingli 72 cell PV modules affixed and operating on a single axis solar tracking system to maximize performance. Read more

Yingli to supply 288 MW of PV modules to Golden Sun projects in China

On December 11th, 2012 Yingli Green Energy Holding Company Ltd. (Boading, China) announced that it expects to supply roughly 288 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) modules to projects announced under the Golden Sun Program. This statement came the same day that three Chinese government agencies jointly announced the approval of 2.83 GW of PV projects under the program. A day prior, on December 10th, 2012, Yingli reported the supply of 25 MW of PV modules to the Queen Creek Solar Farm in Arizona. Read more

The mounting system for the 30 MW plant has been optimized for high-altitude desert conditions, including high winds and snow loads. Sempra completes 92 MW of Copper Mountain Solar 2 PV plant

On December 11th, 2012 Sempra U.S. Gas & Power (San Diego, California, US) announced that it has completed construction of the first 92 MW phase of the Copper Mountain Solar 2 solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in the US state of Nevada. Construction on the PV plant began in December 2011, with nearly 1.5 million PV modules installed over square kilometers near Boulder City, Nevada. Electricity from the project is being sold to Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E, San Francisco, California, U.S) under a 25-year power purchase agreement. Read more

NREL, IISc launch Solar Energy Research Institute for India and the United States

On December 9th, 2012 the US Department of Energy's (DOE) National Renewable Energy Laboratories (NREL, Golden, Colorado, US) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc, Bangalore, India) officially launched the Solar Energy Research Institute for India and the United States (SERIIUS). SERIIUS will assist in the development of emerging and transformative solar electric technologies, to support India's Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission and the DOE's SunShot Initiative. Hanwha SolarOne reports increase in PV module shipments, decline in revenues in 3Q 2012

Hanwha SolarOne Company Ltd. (Shanghai, China) has released results for the third quarter of 2012, reporting a 3.8% sequential increase in solar photovoltaic (PV) module shipments to 239 MW, but a 9.9% decline in revenues to USD 154 million. The company also reported a -26% operating margin, and a net loss of USD 28.5 million. Hanwha SolarOne cites the competitive global market environment and the continuing fall in PV module prices, noting that every Tier 1 Chinese PV manufacturer has reported an negative operating result during the quarter.
